MOT REMINDER FOR NEXT YEAR

mot reminder
It’s easy to forget your MOT. That’s why we’ll automatically send you a reminder for next year by text and by email.

WHEN AND WHY DO I NEED AN MOT TEST?

The MOT test checks that your vehicle meets the minimum road safety and environmental standards on the day of the test.
All vehicles over 3 years old are required by law to have a valid MOT test certificate.
You must get an MOT for your vehicle by either the third anniversary of its registration or the anniversary of its last MOT if it’s over 3 years old.
You can be fined up to £1,000 for driving a vehicle without a valid MOT.
You will be unable to Tax your car without a valid MOT and your insurance may be void.

CAN I HAVE MY MOT TEST DONE EARLY?

mot checklist
Yes, you can get an MOT up to a month (minus a day) before it runs out and keep the same renewal date.
For example, if your MOT runs out on 15 May, the earliest you can get an MOT to keep the same renewal date for next year is 16 April.
You can choose to get an earlier MOT but the renewal date for the following year will change to one year (minus a day) from the date the vehicle last passed its MOT.

DO I STILL NEED A SERVICE?

Yes, we recommend adhering to the manufacturer’s service schedule.
The MOT is a visual inspection of your vehicle to ensure it meets the minimum safety and environmental standards on the day of the test. As part of the MOT rules, wheels, undertrays and engine covers are not removed, and no parts are changed during the MOT test.

CAN WE MOT MOTORHOMES AND HORSEBOXES?

Yes, motorhomes classed as “Motor Caravans” come under the same MOT Class 4 test rules as cars.
We have an extended length MOT lift and a workshop entrance height of 5 meters to cater for most motorhomes.
We MOT horseboxes up to the class 7 category. Horseboxes are subject to the same weight categories as vans, so anything up to 3500kg gross vehicle weight (GVW) we can MOT.
Please note vehicles above 3500kg GVW are HGV and will need to go to a HGV testing station.

WHAT IF MY CAR FAILS THE MOT?

mot failure
If your car fails its MOT, we will talk you through what is wrong and provide you with a quote for any repair work required. We aim to complete the agreed work on the same day or the following working day. We can spread the cost of the repairs over four months if required. The MOT re-test is free, as long as it’s within 10 working days of the original test.
